Generic Surgical Science Examination

Overview

The SET1 Generic Surgical Science Examinations test trainees’ knowledge, understanding and application of Anatomy, Pathology and Physiology, in health and disease as they apply to generic and specialty specific situations. This Examination must be satisfactorily completed during SET1 (the first year of training).

Preparing for the Examination


As of February 2012, the Generic SSE will consist of

  • a 20 question Generic Spot Test Anatomy based question paper
  • an 80 question Generic multiple choice question (MCQ) Anatomy based question paper
  • a 120 question Generic MCQ Pathology/Physiology based question paper

Examination Dates, Fees and Additional Information

Trainees must register and pay the applicable fee for the examinations. There are strict closing dates applied by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS).
