What is the SET Program in Neurosurgery?

 The Australian and New Zealand postgraduate qualification required to practice as an independent specialist neurosurgeon in the respective countries is the Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in Neurosurgery. The Surgical Education and Training (SET) Program in Neurosurgery is the accredited training program to obtain the FRACS and operates in Australia, New Zealand and Singapore. 

How long is the SET Program?

The SET Program is structured on a six year sequential curriculum.  The SET Program duration may be decreased or increased in accordance with the Regulations.

What are the components of the SET Program?

Each year of the SET Program has performance standards which must be satisifed.  Trainees must satisfactorily complete each performance standard for a given year to progress to the next year in good standing.  These include assessments, examinations and courses.

What is the SET Program Curriculum?

The overall objective of the SET Program in Neurosurgery is to produce competent independent specialist neurosurgeons with the experience, knowledge, skills and attributes necessary to provide the communities, health systems and professions they serve with the highest standard of safe, ethical and comprehensive care and leadership. The SET Program has 22 syllabus modules.
