Sub Specialty Training
The Neurosurgical Society of Australasia Post Fellowship Education and Training (PFET) Programs provide the opportunity for suitably qualified independent specialist neurosurgeons to undertake extensive education and training to achieve advanced proficiency, knowledge and skills in a specific sub-specialty area of neurosurgical practice.
PFET Programs are currently available in the following sub-specialities:
Each PFET Program has clearly stated objectives for the sub-specialty expertise based on achieving a level of competence above that of a generalist neurosurgeon. The PFET Programs complement the Surgical Education and Training Program in Neurosurgery.
PFET Programs are a minimum 12 months full time, or part time equivalent, and must include clinical, research, educational and administrative experience in the sub-specialty area. Institutions with positions which currently deliver relevant training are invited to submit an application at any time for accreditation of the positions. All accredited positions are advertised on this website on the relevant sub-specialty page.
Fellows who gain employment in an accredited PFET position who are wishing to register for the PFET Program can do so via this website. The registration process is very different to that in the SET Program given that there is no selection process. The selection occurs at the hospital level with appointment to accredited positions using hospital processes. There are eligibility criteria which applicants for the PFET Program must satisfy to be registered and securing an accredited PFET position is one such requirement.
For further details please review our Regulations and visit the sub-specialty pages in this section of the website.
