Training Positions

Accreditation

The Board appreciates that to provide the diversified clinical and educational experience necessary to achieve competency in neurosurgery, training positions in distinctly different hospital teaching environments are necessary. As such criteria for the accreditation of training positions has been developed in a hierarchal manner to facilitate the inclusion of training positions not only in principal teaching hospitals, but also affiliated hospitals generally located in outer-metropolitan areas and private hospitals. Training positions specifically for paediatric neurosurgery are also accredited as part of the SET Program.

Allocations to Training Positions

The Board conducts the allocation of trainees to accredited positions during all clinical training years of the SET Program. Trainees must be prepared to be assigned to a position anywhere in Australia and New Zealand. Singapore trainees must be prepared to be assigned to the positions in Singapore for the first three clinical years of their training.

Trainee Assessment of Training Positions

The assessment of training positions by accredited trainees is a critical component of the training position review process. All trainees are required to complete the online training position evaluation form on a six monthly basis providing information regarding their experiences in their accredited training position (not required during SET4).
